Unratedmagazine: What was you background like?
Thierry : My parents had a lot of vinyl so I’ve got into music early. I started listening more and more too extreme music which put me into playing the guitar. Next step was forming a band to hit the stage. I’ve tried unsuccessfully many times until When Reasons Collapse.
How did you start you musical career?
Thierry : I started by taking piano classes when I was ten. As I grew up I learned to play the guitar. I’ve been in a couple of bands but When Reasons Collapse is the only one with the intentions to tour and release albums.
Tell me about the development of your musical style?
Thierry : It started as a mix of Metalcore, melodic deathmetal and deathcore. It has turned into a melting pot of a lots of styles. It’s getting more aggressive with the years but still melodic.
What is your music gender?
Thierry : We qualify our music as melodic deathcore even if we incorporate a lot of other elements coming from black metal to post hardcore and anything that can improve our music.
How did you get your name?
Thierry : Our name comes from the lyrics of a French song. It is not coming from a musical inspiration but the idea behind it suited well or vision of our music.
Can you definite Metalcore?
Thierry : For me, Metalcore is melodic death metal played in a more aggressive way. It has evolved in many different ways, but at the beginning with bands like As I Lay Dying or Killswitch Engage it was something like that.
You are from Paris. How is the Metal Music in Paris?
Thierry : There is a lot of bands. It’s hard to gain acceptance among the scene. Things have got better for us with the years but it’s still hard to get to play on decent stages.
How did you because a member of the band?
Thierry : I formed the band back in 2008 with Cristina. We have the actual line-up since 2014.
Your first two EP were self-produced. What is the working progress of getting the EP together?
Thierry : Our two EP and our 4rst album were self-produced. Cristina writes the lyrics and I take care of the music. As soon as all the songs are complete, we test them live. If everything is good, we record, mix and master them at home.
How did you find a producer for your new LP?
Thierry : We didn’t and we are still independent.
What is the release date of the LP?
Thierry : After two years of work, it will be released on the 25th of May.
Your bio say you have toured across 20 countries- Europe. Which ones did you miss?
Thierry : Even if we had a great time in every countries, I would say that I miss Poland and Romania. The people are really nice, the food is awesome and there is a lot of beer!
You are endorse from ESP. Are there anymore endorsement deals in the works?
Thierry : We are not looking for endorsements. We got endorsed by ESP because we met the guy in charge of it after a show. Maybe we’ll look for a string endorsement later on. We are always breaking strings…
Does the band have any classic guitars?
Thierry : Me and Julien the other guitarist have classic guitars. We haven’t use this instruments for When Reasons Collapse but we are thinking about it for a while. We are trying to figure out how it can incorporate it in our compositions.
Cristina-What does it mean “The Lady with the Devil in her eyes”?
Cristina : After the shows, I’m often told that I look possessed on stage. One time on tour, a guy told me after the show, that I was a lady with the Devil in my eyes.
Thinking about the mix of a lady (which is quite a very feminine word) and the devil was quite funny. I think that sums up pretty well how I feel when we’re sharing our music during the shows. I want people to feel the rage and pain of my words, through my voice and behavior, without looking like a man.
Cristina congratulation on your engagement with David Richard.
Cristina : Thank you very much, it’s a lot of stress preparing a wedding and an album at the same time.
