Thybreath- Pure F***ing Metal from Spain

Interview conducted on December 10, 2020

By Dan Locke

Thybreath was born in early 2012 founded by Iván Arroyo. After recording their first self-titled album and touring different rooms in the Spanish geography, the band undergoes several formation changes and records their second album, “Where the Gods fall”, released in 2015 already with Víctor Camargo to the voice. At this stage, Thybreath comes to share a poster with such well-known bands as Obús

What is your upbringing?

Thybreath was born in 2012, founded by Iván Arroyo, since then we have grown as musicians and as people.

Each of the members have had a music journey, from a very young age, we have breathed music, and we have lived by it.

How did you discover music?

Each one of us had people in our lives who taught us what music is , how to enjoy and live with it.

How did you start writing music?

The music comes from the heart. Listening to it…it shows you which steps you should follow.

 Describe your music

 PURE FUCKING METAL hehehe

How did you form your band?

Iván after being in several bands, decided to form Thybreath, and thus present his ideas through this new formation.

How did your band get that name?

Thybreath, is a mixture of the language of Mr.Shakespeare  your breath, if you don’t breathe you don’t live  it’s our way of living

What was your first performance on Like?

The first performance was in Madrid, on May 25, 2013, after releasing our self-titled álbum

Vanja- How did you join the band?

Vanja Obscure
Vanja Obscure

I had just moved to Madrid for a couple of months and was looking for like-minded people that share the same flame. Meeting the guys was quite spontaneous. I saw that they were looking for a vocalist and contacted them. We weren’t previously acquainted.. but i had a good feeling. Sometimes things just work out.

 What makes a good composer?

Work and being diligent. The aim is becoming a good musician, through work and staying humble.

Do you belong to an organization of composers such as the International Association of Songwriters, SESAC, BMI or ASCAP?

No, we are not in any association.

What was the title of your first original song?  Did you record it?

Adrenaline Yes of course, it was the first topic.

How did you find your new drummer?  It was through a website of musicians, at the moment we are looking for drums again, but we do not stop working on the new album.

Tell me about your new album?

We are working very fast and efficient on the new album, even though we have a lack of drums (in the physical form). Ivan prepares sequenced drums and we are moving forward and nearing to completion on the composing part.

Tell me about “All my hate”?

It has been an album where we bring out the hatred that we had inside, but with the covid problem, we had to pause the tour for the moment.

What is your favorite track on the album?

It is difficult to answer that question, each song is like a child, they all have something special.

How do you stay healthy while traveling?

Thybreath
Thybreath

Trying to keep your feet on the ground, and knowing that you are the engine, in addition to having to drive, so you have to take care of yourself.

How do you feel about streaming music?

Transmitting music is transmitting life, feelings that you make people feel alive..

How can people forget the source hashtag # Sharp in a musical score?

Hehehe people are very forgetful of sharps

 Digital versus vinyl?

We do not care, everything has its charm, even though vinyl …

Vanja- How was your birthday?

My birthday! It was in September.. drinks, presents, ropes, knives, a lot of fun J

Both Pfizer and BioNTech have completed the phase 3 study of the coronavirus vaccine.  Two shots are needed with the vaccine.  How many people do you think will take it and how many will forget to take the second shot?

Well, that will be like the sustained ones lol, we hope that the vaccines are effective and we all get out of all this, and that no more people leave our side.

Do you think the Covid-19 virus will affect the music business in the future?

It is already affecting, but it will surely recover, music is essential

What have you been doing with your self quarantine?

We have been composing songs and some more things that cannot be said lol

Have you been modeling during the confinement?

You are always scheming something, and with so much more time.

Have you discovered or rediscovered new hobbies?

We have all discovered a new hobby

95% of people said they have changed the way they watch television.  This includes people who do not have a television and who use their computers to stream shows and movies.  What is your favorite broadcast channel?

The truth is that we see everything we can if you leave us the composition of the new album, but we almost always walk on YouTube.

Many artists perform nightly concerts on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.  In October that will change at least on Facebook.  Facebook is cracking down on programs streamed live that include music recorded with new terms of service, preventing artists from using the platform for “commercial or non-personal” purposes, unless they have obtained the appropriate licenses.

The updated music guidelines state that users “may not use videos in our products [including Instagram] to create a music listening experience […] This includes [Facebook] Live” and stipulates that such content must be posted to  the enjoyment of friends and family only.

How do you think this will change the landscape of Facebook?

Facebook is a business, we believe that they do the best for them, although it is a platform to raise awareness of big bands.

How can bands keep their fans if they can’t perform live in front of fans and sell merchandise to them at the show?

It will be a problem if it cannot be done, we have faith that this ends and we return to our lives and our concerts.

Is there still pay to play?

Sometimes yes.  Now paying to play also means thinking like a playlist on the internet.

What about the holographic concerts in our living room?

We thought about it, but with the line-up changes, we decided to prepare a new album.

If you can’t make music, what would you like to do?

Surviving, not having music would be dying slowly.

Anything you would like to say to end.

The first thing is to respect the rules so that we get out of this hell as soon as possible, and above all that no more people leave us.

We will be back to rock with our new album, with a little patience.
