The Broadberry – Richmond, Virginia July 31, 2022

A hefty crowd of dedicated fans turned out in Richmond for the Staten Island, New York native instrumental band. Consisting of sounds deriving from Afro-soul, psychedelic rock, and funk, The Budos Band brings on high energy that makes the whole room grove. Their sound flaunts a brass section with two trumpets and a baritone saxophone and an expansive rhythm section with drums, congas and bongos.
They were supported by ROGUÊ, a Brazilian musician and composer. He performed rhythmic samba and funk music accompanied by his nylon guitar. “These are my brothers; my brothers by choice,” he said about The Budos Band and other loved ones in his life that have supported him on this tour. He sang of friendship and brotherly love in his native language of portuguese.
The Broadberry is an intimate setting that can connect the artists with the crowd from the standing room to the lifted lounge area so everyone has a place to dance. The Budos Band took advantage of that by exciting fans reaching out into the crowd and tossing a few lucky fans some drinks. Even with the smaller stage, they moved around the stage swinging their instruments in the air and head banging to the beat. The crowd couldn’t get enough as one fan yelled out “two more hours of Budos!” despite the 19 song set. They cheered to the audience as they finished up but I know that Richmond is already thirsty for more.
