Carrying signs and demanding change, students at schools around Chicago Illinois and the nation participated in a national walkout to protest gun violence.
Chicago’s Taft High School students gather as a part of a national movement to protest school shootings on today.
Wednesday’s walkouts happened after a gunman killed 17 students last month at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Many students stepped outside for 17 minutes (one minute for each person killed at the Florida school). Students at schools in Chicago and throughout the suburbs walked out, some holding a moment of silence at the end.
As one bystander said, “It’s enough to make me cry. I never thought I would see this. Seeing student caring for a cause”.
