Sting: Has he left the Police behind
Ravinia, Highland Park, IL, USA, August 23, 2019
The My Songs Tour is a world tour by the one and only British singer-songwriter Sting, in support of his thirteenth solo studio album My Songs, released on 24 May 2019. The tour began on 28 May 2019 at La Seine Musicale in Paris, France and is scheduled to go on until 2 September 2019 at Kit Carson Park in Taos, New Mexico.
On this night Chicagoland gets a piece of this legendary musician. Sting plays two “My Songs” shows at Chicago’s Ravinia Festival on tonight August 23 and tomorrow the 24th… Ravinia is, North America’s oldest music festival stands today as its most musically diverse, presenting over 140 different events throughout the summer. The 36-acre park is nestled in a gently wooded area that makes it an enchanting place to experience music. Ravinia is a unique music venue with a great Pavilion also with a party like friendly lawn atmosphere. With people bringing in their own blankets, chairs, coolers of beer, wine, cheese, you name it. Ravinia is one of the most interesting places to enjoy a concert if you do not have a Pavilion seat ticket. Both lawn and Pavilion are a great experience can’t lose.
The crowd is in a great mood with good energy and anticipation as Sting hits the stage the crowd just goes crazy as Sting instantly hits the fans with his most iconic song “Message in a Bottle”… Sting was in tremendous vocal form, holding long notes and nailing “Ey-yo-oh!” in great fashion on “Message in a Bottle”. Say what you want to say but for a 67-year-old, Sting can still deliver, vocally and musically as he can play the bass flawlessly. Stings vocals seem stronger than years past like he has a better dynamic to his range all around. From his days in the Police till now the guy undoubtedly can hang like he once had. Sting is proof that you are never too old to kick ass on stage. My true enjoyment was watching drummer “Josh Freese” perform tonight he was just phenomenal, an amazing drummer with excellent technique behind the set. Love it is all I can say.
Sting’s setlist for the night is what the crowd and I was hoping for nothing but a bunch of his greatest hits. This includes the likes of “Englishman In New York”, “Roxanne”, “Walking On The Moon”, “You Love Someone Set Them Free” and of course leaving the fans in a complete worthwhile show. Each one of these songs brings people back in time to a moment in their life where they have personal ties good or bad but these are the moment’s people love and the reason, they get out to see Sting perform. This evening Sting’s voice sounds incredible and has aged just like a fine wine. “Every Breath You Take” was the Pinnacle for me. The show tonight was outstanding and I’m really hoping the fans tomorrow night get a killer show like the one I witnessed.
The night ended with no double encore but with the first and only encore “King of Pain” and then “Next to You” wrapping it up with “Fragile” to close the night out. The crowd loved the show I loved the show. I’m glad I decided to get out to this one tonight. If you have a chance to see Sting on this run before it ends get out and do it you will not regret it.
