Ravinia Festival, Highland Park, IL, USA, August 12, 2017
Review by Anita Maree Brodersen
Mexican born Carlos Santana and his band brought the fusion and Latin style music to the grounds of Ravinia Festival on a beautiful summer night. Santana made their debut at Ravinia back in 2012 and finally found their way back for two sold-out performances.
This tour is promoting their new album “The Power of Peace” that they recorded with The Islay Brothers, fans were anxious to hear both the classics and the new songs.
The mighty Santana took to the stage to start the night performing “O Paradiso” and so it began. The concert was really one long jam session as each song flowed into another. Carlos showcased fancy guitar solos throughout the night showing why he is considered a genius at his work. Some new songs the band performed included, “Are You Ready People”, “Total Destruction To Your Mind”, “Higher Ground”, “I Remember”, and “Love, Peace, and Happiness”.
The band also performed, “Maria Maria, “Foo Foo”, “Mona Liza”, “Corazon Espinado”, “Jingo”, and “Smooth”.
Santana showed off her talents and tore it up on the drums. Rounding out the night included Tommy Anthony on rhythm guitar, Dave Mathews, keyboards, Benny Rietveld, bass, and Paoli Mejias, congas. A spectacular night was had by the fans of Santana. Since launching his career back during Woodstock in 1969, Carlos has been honored over the years with awards from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Billboard Awards, Grammy Awards, and Kennedy Center Honors to name a few. This iconic Carlos Santana continues to amaze. Winning!
