The band is from Paraguay. What is your upbringing?
Danicide -We raised in Asuncion, luckily, the three of us studied music in our childhood thanks to our parents that wanted us to have something parallel aside the school
How did you discover music?
-What I can remember is basically from my sister playing the piano, since she is older than me, she studied piano first and used to play at our house, catching my attention.
How did you start to write music?
-My first song was playing around with the piano from our house, I started my studies of the instruments at our local music institute from our neighborhood, after 1 or two years maybe, cannot recall it very well, I wanted to do something that can be my creation, so I started with the chord E minor, doing some arpeggios and combining with chords, ascending it on its own scale, so, it was fun and sounded great for me. Never stopped since then but I always wanted to play guitar ’cause of my taste of music which was mainly hard rock and then, I’ve learned to play the guitar and started writing music on that instrument.
Describe your music.
A collide of noises and uplifting electronic manipulation of frequencies with heavy music touches
How did you get your first guitar, and do you still have it?
my father gave me a guitar when I was 8 years old, unfortunately, I don’t have it anymore
What is your guitar of choice now? Year, make and model?
I love Schecter Guitars Hellraiser C-8, Mahogany, 2010
How did your form the band?
I had many bands before Noisecide, I always wanted to make industrial music ’cause I think that the style that defines or, the style where I can put all my influences, so, I know a lot of musicians here in Asuncion and Atarix (drums) was my bandmate in my other band as well, so basically I auditioned Poison Lady (bass) and the band was formed, started to produce and recording the songs, then we started to rehearse in 2019 and then we planned to release songs on 2020.
How did your band gets its name?
It was an idea I had a few years ago, I really didn’t think too much but I always loved the word “noise” so, something that can be related to noise and suicide (so it’s basically having a suicide with noise, or that was what I was thinking) was a good idea at that moment, also, it’s a short word and it’s a made-up word, so in that time I already created all the socials with this name, so, when I started the band I asked Atarix and Poison Lady if they like the name, and, they agreed, it sounded catchy and according to the style for them, so we stayed with that name.
What was your first performance at like?
It was great in our opinion, we had fun playing there, it was a small presentation, we’ve been invited by a new band that wanted to start a new movement with other emerging bands and music style that usually is not heard here in Asunción, so we’ve been very happy and we accepted and played there, it was humble but a great presentation.
What makes a good songwriter?
I think first comes the passion for writing music and then dedication and experience in my opinion and also, the “why” and “what for” you are writing a song that you would like to present to people, I think that’s key as well, so, you want to transmit something in a form of ordered frequencies that you crafted with heart, soul and patience.
What is the process of writing your music?
First is the idea that comes to my mind, I record it on my phone not to forget it, sometimes I already have the concept of how it should sound like and then go straight to the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) to write it down, in other occasions, I just have the idea, the main melody, and chords and I start to experiment with sounds till I find something that I like, and last I write the lyrics to the melodies.
Do you belong to any to songwriters’ organizations like the International singer-songwriter association, SESAC, BMI or ASCAP?
Yeah, I belong to ASCAP
What was the title of your first original song? Did you record it?
Wow, I don’t remember my very first original song, but if you are referring to Noisecide’s first original song is calling “Running Red Lights” and yeah, it’s already recorded.
Why did you do three videos for Get Together?
I think we just did two videos, one is the Lyric Video and the other is the Official Music Video
Why did you decide to recreate Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus”? This is the sign of the times?
That was ’cause we love Depeche Mode, and when we started we said we were not going to do covers, but, in a conversation we had, we’ve been talking about bands that we love, and the coincidence was that we three love Depeche Mode, and well, we said, let’s do this 2 covers from them! The other is “Enjoy The Silence”. I don’t know if it is a sign of times, could be, the reflection that we are alone, the loneliness that we confront every day, but, I think Depeche Mode was referring more to a close person you know that can help you in some situations or a lot of situations, well, that person could be a member from your family, your parents, your boyfriend/girlfriend, etc, at least that’s what I understand from the lyrics of the song.
What is your favorite track on the album?
I’m not sure about what album you are referring to, but if it is ours, it’s coming in 2021, yeah! so hard to decide which one is my favorite yet.
How do you stay healthy while performing?
Following the protocols, spraying alcohol on the mic and stuff that I’m going to touch, and using the mask before and after the show
What are you’re feeling about streaming music?
I think it’s great, you can discover any music from any part of the world in seconds, I think it’s one of the best things that ever happened to music, yesterday I was listening to a lot of new bands and artists, it was great, never was like that before, maybe it’s a little overwhelming with all the options you have, but you know, you just search and find what you would like to listen and discover.
How can people forget about the origin hashtag # Sharp in a musical score?
well, I think they just should know that in the sharp sign the lines are slanted while in the hashtag they aren’t
Digital vs. vinyl?
I like both
What song from the past is in your mind right now? Moreover, what is the meaning that song means to you?
“Right Next Door The Hell” from GNR, well, that is the song that I listened to before going to school and after coming back home from school every single day of my childhood, so, yeah, it is pure energy and used to put me in a rebel mood all the time, the unforgettable bass at the intro, those distorted guitars and the way they were played are magnificent, huge drums, plus the crazy way Axl sings, man! it’s pure adrenaline. I didn’t understand any word Axl was saying, but It made me crazy and was a companion during my lonely childhood
How was the Skynet Fest?
It was great, at the beginning of the day it was raining, well, basically all day, usually here when it rains people tend to stay at home plus the pandemic going on, it’s way better to stay home right, but, people went to the venue and we all had fun, we did our best and I think they were happy with the show, saw a lot of new faces which is cool for me and shared the stage with music colleagues and old friends. We had some difficulty with the sound test at first since we bring our own digital console and pass everything mic through that since we have our preset for the sound of the band and so on, but we fixed it, and then everything was great.
Both Pfizer and BioNTech have concluded Phase 3 Study of the Coronavirus vaccine. With the vaccine, it takes two shots. How many people do you think will take it and how many will forget to take the second shot?
I am not really sure about this thing, I think people should be free to choose to take the vaccine, if they don’t want it, then, they or we shouldn’t do it, I think it’s better to stay healthy and follow the protocols than taking a vaccine, first they said it was going to take like 2 years approximately and then, they just have it out of nothing, too fast, wow, I think there should be tested for them, first, see if the vaccine really works and then tell people to take it, I think nobody should just go and take the vaccine cause other people tells it. That’s my honest opinion about it. I don’t even know why there is a second shot, sorry my ignorance.
How long before the whole world will be vaccinated against the virus. You have to remember there only has to be a 70% for Herd immunity (Herd immunity occurs when a large portion of a community (the herd) becomes immune to a disease, making the spread of disease from person to person unlikely. As a result, the whole community becomes protected — not just those who are immune.)
Do you feel the Covid-19 virus going to affect the music business in the future?
I think it will not affect, really? how many illnesses we have out there and we are going to let a simple one affect us? I don’t think so, life continues and we just should move on and be careful and follow the health protocols and that’s it, seems like the situation is getting a little paranoic, in my opinion, we shouldn’t live with fear, and will not affect at all.
What have you been doing with your self-quarantine?
Writing a lot of new music, and learning a lot of things, you never stop learning, but I think I was even more productive lately.
Have you discovered or rediscovered any new hobbies?
Not really, I was even busier lately, didn’t have any time to re-discover any hobby
95% of people said that they have changed the way they watch television. This includes people who don’t have television and using their computers to do streaming of programs and movies. Which is your favorite streaming channel?
I don’t have any preference, but I only have Netflix, I barely watch it though, I don’t watch television since 2008 approx. I only use internet since I have there everything I need.
With the streaming services (Disney (50+ new shows/movies Lizzie McGuire, The Sandlot, Beauty and the Beast prequel, Moana, Cars, Soul, Raya and the Last Dragon, Sister Act 3, Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Wendy, all future Star Wars and Marvel movies and shows) and HOB Max ( including Wonder Woman 2, Godzilla vs Kong, Top Gun: Maverick, Mortal Kombat, Tom and Jerry, The Many Saints of Newark, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, In the Heights, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Suicide Squad, Dune, The Matrix 4) planning to pull all the upcoming movies from next year and put them on their streaming service. How will that affect the entertainment industry?
One thing you have to remember also most of these movies are already in the can ready to be released. And the original agreement was for the movies to come out at the theater first. The actors and crew make most of their money from the residuals (financial compensations that are paid to the actors, film directors and other involved (including music) in the making of the movie in cases of reruns, syndication, DVD release, and online streaming release).
Wow, I didn’t know those movies were coming since I’m not really too much into movies just cause of my lack of time, heard something about Matrix 4, but I used to watch movies a few months after their release. I think there should be a solution, like the concerts, could be fewer people taking distance from each other in the theatres or maybe car theatre again till the thing comes to normal in my opinion. But yeah, the only difference nowadays, I think is the infrastructure you have when you go to a theater if you know what I mean, bigger screen, most in your face sound and the experience of going out itself with someone or with friends, cause, you can now basically have your home theater, I know not everybody can afford that, but this is changing in my opinion, but I don’t know too much about it, I think it’s a little like the video games world, in the old days people loved arcade cause of the experience itself in the first place, I mean, the experience of going out and have fun, plus, the quality of some games, they always did it better for the Arcade, then, when the consoles were getting better and better, and everything, bigger TVs, HD resolution and so on, why going to a place where you would play arcades since you can have it at home? so, I think people go out to do social life, that will never change, staying at home it’s just for now, I think there should be a solution for everything and people that are involved in that world and know how it works will find a solution soon in my opinion.
Many artists are doing nightly concerts over either YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. In October that is going to change at least on Facebook. Facebook is cracking down on livestreamed shows that include recorded music with new terms of service, preventing artists from using the platform for “commercial or non-personal” purposes, unless they have obtained the relevant licenses.
The updated music guidelines state that users “may not use videos on our products [which include Instagram] to create a music listening experience […] This will includes [Facebook] Live,” and stipulates that such content should be posted for the enjoyment of friends and family only.
How do you think this will change the landscape of Facebook?
Well, I heard and read about that, but I think the change should have been done already, right? Well, what I understand is that they don’t allow recorded music to use while you live-stream, so, If you do, for example, your own songs and you are performing them live, there should not be a problem, the problem is if you use recorded music during your live show so, if you don’t have permission to use that sound they may not allow you to do the Livestream, I think it will not change so much, that’s the same with youtube, you cannot use music without a license, so they put you a copyright claim, or sometimes a strike to your channel, but people are still using the platform a lot. I think it will not do a huge change to Facebook users in my opinion.
How can bands keep their fans if they cannot play live in front of the fans and sell merchandise to them at the show?
I think bands should keep releasing new music and try to engage with their fans and suggest them to buy merch from their online stores, I know is different when a fan goes and see their preferred band live, so the experience is different, but I think we should always find a solution when times are tough, I think to keep releasing new music and engaging your fans to buy merch and contribute with your band in my opinion.
Is pay to play still a thing? Now pay to play also means things like playlist on the internet and opening slots for a major band on tour.
I think that will never disappear, I think it’s the natural dynamic of the business or of the music world itself, regarding the pay to play as an opening band, It’s like an investment I guess, so you basically are presenting your music to new people who are fan from the headliner, they might like your music if you do a great show if your music really touches them, so, in a free-market world, I think there are no too many rules, so, it’s up to a band to accept those type of things, or the show producer that in accordance with the headliner to do that, etc. I try to see this objectively, so, well, let’s do an example, people say, “don’t spam” ’cause it’s annoying, people are not requesting it, etc, I get it, could not be ok, I personally don’t like spam. But, well, a platform like Facebook, or google, they started from the bottom, offering a service, they made it huge, and then, they offer you to pay for ads on their respective platforms cause they have a lot of people using their platform so when you advertise you pay for it and you are offering another service (or a product) to potential clients? is it not similar to the opening thing?
What about Holographic concerts in our living room?
Haha, crazy, but possible, will be like a game with virtual reality, kinda.
If you can’t do music what would you like to be doing?
Oh man, exploring the space maybe
What is your happy place?
my home studio, in front of my pc and where we rehearse which is at my home studio,
Anything you would like to say in closing.
Thank you so much for the interview and for the opportunity to share our thoughts with you and your audience, we are really happy and we would like to wish everyone the best and please stay safe, always listen to music, be kind with your loved ones, there is always a solution and have a great 2021!!
