Strauss has been on the rock music scene since 2003, She started as a guitarist for the all-female band,Iron Maidens, a tribute band to Iron Maiden. She was the first female signature artist of Ibanez guitars. She also took her place in Guitar World’s list of ’10 Female Guitar Players You Should Know’ as number one on the list. Most folks who have seen and heard her play would place Strauss as number one of all guitar players alive today. Moreover, the legendary Alice Cooper also didn’t miss the opportunity to work with Strauss when he hired her in 2014 to be a permanent member of his band.
Cooper and his band are on hiatus until next year rendering Strauss time to tour solo till Christmas. Strauss is also promoting her first full length solo album, Controlled Chaos. The album has gotten great reviews and there is good reason for the accolades.
Strauss hit the stage with a fast-paced energy that is infectious for the band and the fans. From the first notes, it is obvious that she joins the club with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Tony Macalpine, and Paul Gilbert to name a few. The music was fresh and enjoyable, and you could tell that she was having a great time ripping sounds right out of her guitar.
“Our Most Desperate Hour” was probably the showcase song of the night. “Alegria” and “Mariana Trench” were more highpoints of the show. Some of the riffs and hooks are difficult to forget and there’s some inspired double-tracked guitar. Opener, Black Satellite lead singer, Larisssa Vale, joined Strauss to sing a number during the set.
Besides being a technical guitar genius, Strauss seems to really enjoy performing with a stage presence unmatched by any other guitar player. Strauss is simply captivating.
