It was a perfect Fall evening for some live metal music at Tinley Park’s Credit Union 1 Amphitheater last week with none other than legendary nu-metal band, Korn. Also in attendance was heavy metal band, Gojira, who dominated the news just a couple of months ago due to their controversially visual (a/k/a awesome) metal music performance at the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony in France. Lastly, new-to-the-scene metal band, Spiritbox opened up the evening, respectively.
Headlining the night was Korn, who took the almost sold-out amphitheater on a journey through their iconic discography, captivating fans from start to finish. Opening with the electrifying “Here to Stay,” the band immediately set the tone, igniting the crowd with their signature blend of nu-metal riffs and visceral energy. (See set list below)
Jonathan Davis’s vocals were powerful and emotive, drawing the audience into the heart of every song. Hits like “Blind” and “Got the Life” had the crowd roaring, while deeper cuts showcased the band’s musical evolution. The stage production was equally impressive, featuring striking visuals and a dynamic light show that complemented the intensity of their sound.
Korn’s connection with the audience was palpable, with heartfelt moments that highlighted their journey and resilience. As they closed the set with an explosive rendition of “Freak on a Leash,” the energy that was flowing throughout the Fall air reached a fever pitch, leaving fans exhilarated and craving more. Overall, Korn delivered a night of nostalgia, intensity, and pure metal brilliance, solidifying their place as legends in the genre.

Next up was French super-heavy metal band, Gojira and their performance was nothing short of electrifying, marking a powerful return to the stage following their appearance at the 2024 Olympic Ceremonies. From the moment they launched into “Born for One Thing,” the energy was palpable, with fans fully engaged and singing along. Then there was the pyro…ALL of the pyro. It was never-ending and it was a perfect backdrop to the band’s intensity.
The band delivered a masterclass in heavy metal, blending intricate guitar work and relentless drumming with Joe Duplantier’s commanding vocals. Tracks like “Silvera” and “The Cell” showcased their signature sound, combining intensity with thoughtful lyrics that resonate deeply.
Gojira also took moments to highlight their commitment to environmental issues, reinforcing their role as advocates for change, giving a notable nod to Captain Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (the group was the subject of a reality show named Whale Wars). The set concluded with an explosive rendition of “Amazonia,” leaving the crowd exhilarated and chanting for more. Overall, Gojira’s show was proof-positive of their artistry, proving once again why they’re a force in the metal scene.
