The Exclusive Official Agent: Bruce Corsone Entertainment presents Michael Angelo Batio Band ft. Marsy Flame
Unratedmagazine: Tell me about your background?
Marsy Flame: I did so many things in my life so I’m not even sure how I should answer this ques-tion. I graduated from Cherkasy State Technological University and got my bachelors degree in tourism management, what it is actually kinda useless for me, ‘cause my mom wouldn’t let me go to music college. But all my life I was singing. I took part in different music events, attended singing lessons for couple years in a row and wrote my own music. Also, traveling, making friends, love and so on.
So you speak English, Ukrainian and Russian. You are from Cherkasy, Ukraine. How did you learn
to speak english so good?
Well I’ve studied English since kindergarten, but I can definitely say, I know it mostly because I worked hard, I read books, watched movies with subtitles and the most important thing, I was repeating songs after singers. I learned how to pronounce words the same way as them. I’m still learning. Sometimes, I have a hard time with slang.
How long did it take you to get a visa? And what process did it involved?
I would say 5 years. For 5 long years I couldn’t get to the USA. I still can’t really believe I’m here. Sometimes I try to imagine what would be my life in Ukraine now and even simple thoughts of it make me depressed. Thanks To Michael, this small dream came true. He is well known and this fact helped with my visa.
You wrote a song in 2017 called “The one whose Name I call.” What happen to that song, and how did you do in the Indie International Songwriting Contest?
Yeah, I wrote it long time ago actually. I’m going to release this song on my debut album called “The One.” All of the songs there I wrote a long time ago, except “light of my life.” I found out about the indie international songwriting contest when I was searching for music college’s scholarships and contests and found this one. I applied and two months later I got an email saying that 2 of my songs got to the top 5 in the rock genre.
How did you meet Michael?
Well you’ll think its funny, but Michael found me by Hashtag on Instagram and just liked my video, where I’m singing. And I liked him back haha. Then we started to talk and soon he offered to include me to record and film his song called “Gotta Run” in Milan, Italy so that’s where we actually met for the first time.
How did you decide to work with Michael?
That was Michael and his manager’s decision to work with me. They were seeking a female singer and Michael told him about me. The manager invited me to join the European tour. I was so excited, couldn’t believe that.
Who influences you and why?
The biggest influences in my life were the bands, The Runaways and Vixen. I wanted to have an all girls band after that. I tried a couple of times but it failed in Ukraine. Maybe here it will work out!:) Only music really inspires me and some books like “Secret” or “Al-chemist” and documentary movies like “Behind the Stage.” I love it. I watched all of the parts. Also, since I got back again to the USA, I feel way more freedom to do what I like.
What music fests would you like to play in?
I’d really like to play in Grand Rock Tember music festival VI, Monsters of Rock Cruise, Welcome to Rockwille 2018 and Tortuga Music Festival 2018.
Would you like to play Rock on the Range or Open Air and Why?
Well I’ve seen what bands are playing there and I don’t listen to any of them except for Tyler Bryant and the shakedown. If all of the other bands played similar music, I would definitely want to join. Not really my kind of music. Open Air is a real thing!!! Lots of awe-some bands will play there. I would love to share the stage with Kiss, Steel Panther, Ozzy Osborne and so on.
How would you explain your live performance?
If Michael’s band was my band I would perform another way, because our musical genres are different than with Michael’s band. My favorite performers are David Lee Roth, Steven Tyler, KISS, David Bowie and Alice Cooper. I love Michael’s band. Everyone is very friendly, funny and nice. We are working as a team and that’s why it’s very easy to share the stage with them. I feel very comfortable during the show to do whatever I want.
Any new music plan for this year ?
Yes. Now, I’m working on finishing an album that I wanted to release a year ago, but I’ve just been through a lot and for some reason, couldn’t finish it on time. All of the tracks are ready. The last thing I really need to finish is to write a special thanks to the musicians who helped me with it and then I’m done!!! Hope you’ll like it. I actually have a crazy amount of songs. I already started working on a second album and am happy that this time I will deal only with people who are professionals in mixing and mastering and at the same time, I’ll be learning how to mix too.
If someone was listening to you for the first time, what 3 videos or songs would you tell them to
look/listen to and why?
I would say Light of my life, the one whose name I call and desperate heart. Because those are my favorites from the album.
What is on your phone for music now?
Actually, on my phone now is my set list with the MAB band and my songs. Usually I’m listening to youtube, VK music and of course my mp3player and record player. But the top bands and singers I really like now are Aerosmith, Chris Stapleton, Luke Bryan and Santa Cruz.
Anything in closing you would like to say?
Sorry man, gotta disappear. Let’s get the rock out of here ☺
