Kate Pavli/Finding Kate
Interview conducted on April 19, 2021
By Dan Locke
Kate Pavli, otherwise known by her stage name “Finding Kate” is a Pop/Rock solo artist based in London. Hailing all the way from Australia and Cyprus, this rocker proves she is a force to be reckoned with. Her powerful vocals and anthemic songs with dark undertones separate her from the crowd.
Drawing influences from Pop, Rock, Electronic and Alternative genres – Finding Kate refuses to be put in a ‘genre-box’ and is preparing to release new material in 2021, each song unique in its own way.
How did your musical journey start?
I was brought up with a lot of music in my life and I listened to a lot of music growing up. I started singing lessons at the age of 11, I joined the school choir and then I also joined a musical theatre school. Then at the age of 14, I took part in Cyprus Has Talent where I met my current collaborator & producer Chris Cara. I’d say that’s when my journey ‘officially’ started.
How did you get your artist’s name? Please don’t tell me it was from the 2004 movie or 2014 TV series.
So, my name is Kate, and a few years ago I released an EP under my name KATE but the issue was no one could find me online when you searched for me… so I went with
Finding Kate 🙂
Describe your music.
It’s a Rock, Pop, Electronic, Alternative mix of genres with some dark vibes and melodic vocals.
Tell me about your plans for new material in 2021?
At the moment I am working on new material, and I am so excited! I am finally solidifying some songs that have been in the works for the past 2 years, and in the next few months, I will be making an announcement.
What is your favorite track on your album?
‘Did It Again’ is my favourite.
How do you stay healthy while performing?
I try to eat healthy (as much as I can of course.) I also avoid drinking a lot of alcohol when I have shows, because that really messes up my vocals & performance.
I drink lots of water and get plenty of rest whenever I can!
What song from the past is in your mind right now? Moreover, what is the meaning that song means to you?
I’ve been listening to ‘I’m With You’ by Avril Lavigne a lot recently, it’s a very personal track for me…
You have played a lot of covers. Have you ever gotten any feedback from any of the bands which you have done new version of their music?
Yes, quite recently actually. John Dolmayan from System Of A Down heard my cover of ‘Aerials’ and messaged me to say how much he loved it! What an honour.
If “Video Killed the Radio Star” do you think that the Covid-19 virus has killed live music? Do you feel the Covid-19 virus going to affect the music business in the future?
Yes, Covid-19 has definitely affected the music business, just like it has affected all of our lives. I can’t say it has killed live music, because a lot of artists and bands have figured out ways around not playing live shows for the last year. But when things pick back up and it is safe to play shows again, who knows how many people will attend live shows. The pandemic has shifted the world, entire sectors of work, so I guess, only time will tell!
Why did you decide to start teaching vocal lessons? And are you using zoom, IM, or other application to do your lessons?
I started teaching vocals about 3 years ago! Mainly because I have been singing for the last 10 years or so and also because I love music and I love sharing my vocal experience with aspiring singers. 🙂 During the pandemic I shifted my lessons online and I’ve been using Zoom with my students.
Who/what is Choir Noir?
Choir Noir is a choir I had the honour of joining about two years ago. It is a choir comprised of vocalists from across the UK (and a few other countries). Members are professional vocalists, session musicians, members of bands and we often work on arrangements of songs in a completely re-imagined way. Also, the choir has been featured on a number of albums such as ‘Architects’ For Those That Wish To Exist, ‘Frank Turner’s’ No Man’s Land and more. Super exciting and super fun to be a part of!
How was it to be working with Architects on their new album “For Those That Wish to Exist”?
I was one of the Choir Noir vocalists who had the opportunity to sing on the new Architects album and honestly it was one of the best experiences of my life! I still can’t believe I got to sing on a Number 1 album. The album is so good and I had so much fun singing with my choir family on 9 of the album tracks.
Since you did the album with Architects, are there any plans to tour with them?
Not yet. Maybe one day 😉
Sony Music in November and Warner Music Group in December, The ByteDance-ownedvideo app revealed on (February 8) that it has struck an “expanded” global licensing agreement with Universal Music Group. Now that TikTok is now fully licensed by all three major record companies, will you start using TikTok more?
I actually started using TikTok a lot more in the last month and I’ve really been enjoying it. It has opened a lot of doors to new fans and people who had never heard of me, my originals or my covers. I had no idea it was fully licensed by all 3 major companies though, but for me the most important thing is the ‘For You’ page on TikTok. It’s a great feed that gives creators the opportunity to reach brand new audiences, so yes, I will be using TikTok a lot more!
Anything you would like to say in closing.
Thank you for having me, it’s been a pleasure. To the fans reading this, stay tuned for more info regarding my releases – it’s coming soon! You can find my music and socials here
