The alternative rock band July Talk stopped in Edmonton, Alberta on April 4th, 2023. Their current tour highlights their new album, Remember Never Before. July Talk and their opener, Crown Lands, performed at the Winspear Centre, which is an impressive performing arts centre located in downtown Edmonton. The amazing acoustics and dramatic lights of the Winspear
combine to create an engaging atmosphere for any artist or symphony that steps on stage. Here is a side note. Unrated Magazine interviewed Crown Lands back in 2020. Check out the interview.

Although July Talk was formed in Toronto in 2012, some band members call Edmonton home. During their explosive set, they performed many of their iconic songs, including ‘Beck + Call’, ‘Picturing Love’, ‘Guns and Ammunition’. They also performed songs from their new album, such as ‘When You Stop’ and ‘Human Side’.

At the end of the concert, Peter Dreimanis took to the stage alone to sing an a cappella version of ‘Raw’. After getting heckled by someone in the crowd, Leah Fay joined the stage and they continued the song with a piano. The song was so powerful and moving that it was spellbinding, capturing the entire audience.

Before the last song,‘The Garden’, was played, Peter told the crowd that this song was written with his hometown of Edmonton in mind. Listening to the song, it is easy to notice the Albertan themes, and puts a twist on traditional western country music.
If you ever get the chance to see July Talk perform, it is definitely worth making an effort to see the show. With their remarkable stage presence and a captivating blend of Peter’s raspy, deep vocals and Leah’s sweet, high-pitched voice, the band delivers a performance that lingers in the memory long after the night is over.
