What a difference a few years make. When the pandemic hit the US and the entire world, concerts were discontinued so quickly that one almost forgot that rock-n-roll feeling. Then poof, in rolls in year 2022 and the scene, the energy, the fists in the air, and the musicians were finally back on stage tearing it up. What a great feeling!
The Venue, in Hammond IN, filled up quickly for fans of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. When the band took stage it was action packed from the start. Joan looked and sounded great, and her band consists of Dougie Needles on guitar, Hal B.Selzer on bass, Michael McDermott on drums, and Kenny Laguna on keys.
Joan ripped open the night with “Victim of Circumstance” followed by “Cherry Bomb”, “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)”, “Bad Reputation”, and “Soulmates to Strangers”. Joan talked to the sea of fans about the backgrounds of some of her songs, and she encouraged the audience to sing along. The band then launched into “You Drive Me Wild”, “Light of Day”, “Fake Friends”, and it was great hearing songs not normally in her setlist including “Oh Woe Is Me”, “Coney Island Whitefish”, and “Long Time”.
Joan and team just released their latest album called Changeup. It is her first all acoustic album, where she puts different twist and turns on 25 of her songs. This is really a masterpiece album showcasing songs from early days of her career to more current songs. A perfect album to experience her songs slowed down a bit and for the diehard fans to feel a different groove from each one. The band ended the night with an acoustic performance of three songs, “(I’m Gonna) Run Away”, “Fresh Start”, and “Cherry Bomb”.
This is an exciting year for the band as they will be on The Stadium Tour with, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and Poison.
