Giselle Mynx is a Singer/Songwriter living in NYC by way of Hollywood CA. Her fresh vibrant sound, bombastic pop style is as tasteful as it is powerful.
Unratedmag: What is your background?
Giselle Mynx: My background is a feeling of driving fast at midnight chasing the moon up the 101 with salt wind in my hair. It’s the pungent smell of orange blossoms wafting through the air on a hazy golden afternoon. Dirt under my fingernails from being outside all day with my animals.
What got you interested in music?
Songs spilling from our hearts and how music connects us.
How was the music scene in Hollywood while you were growing up?
I was unaware of the general Hollywood scene and more aware what ebbed into my world. NWA, Dre, Red Hot Chili Peppers on the boulevard of stars. The beach boys, Elvis, and Claude Debussy softly playing on my mother’s record player. Green day, third eye blind and Coldplay were the bands the boys i had crushes on sang to me.
What was the types of music did you like to listen to while growing up?
I was utterly obsessed with Madonna and Mariah Carey.
What clubs did you hang out in?
I didn’t hang out in clubs growing up. I was exploring museums, reading books and riding horses in the Hollywood Hills.
Why did you leave home at 17?
Because I had a dream … because my thirst of adventure and imagination spirited me away into the world of possibilities of what kind of life I could create for myself.
Did you finish high school?
I was home schooled and finished early to go straight to college.
Who influences you and why?
My hero’s, my friends, and the one’s I love with all my heart…
I heard you love dogs. How many do you have and what are their names?
I do love dogs!! I don’t have any dogs at the moment. I live in NYC and city life doesn’t lend itself to being an excellent pet parent. I take the responsibility of caring of living things very seriously and couldn’t do it half-heartedly. One day I will live on a farm and have a herd of Mastiffs and Bernese Mountain Dogs.
Why did you decide to head over to NYC?
I followed my heart here. I’d never been to the city before, nor did I know anyone but somehow I knew the city of lights and dreamers is where I belonged.
How is music different in NYC vs LA?
With the internet and our level of access music is global and everyone tailor makes playlists to their own tastes no matter where they live.
Can you tell me what your video The Murder Ballad of Beatrix Kiddo is about?
A girl who runs away from reality into a dream world. She trusts the dream more than the boy who chases after her.
Tell me about the development of your musical style?
I always just let whatever is in my heart spill out, it’s weaving a feeling into Sonics.
What is your music genre?
That’s up to the listener to decide.
You are the total package with your music. You producer, writes all of her own lyrics and masters/mixes/produces all of her own material.
I definitely get help!! No one is an island and we all need each other to come alive in the world!!
Why did you decide to go the route of electronic music instead of the safe route of Pop or Rock?
Art isn’t about being safe. Art is about telling the truth, about sparking up a light in the dark.
Who are The Classic Kids?
A classy group of gentlemen and incredible musicians.
How did you start working with Girls Named Jennifer?
Cause they reached out to me!
Tell me about Girl Kings?
It’s a group of girls under which we originate a myriad of projects focused on women’s empowerment.
You are a wish-grantor” for Make A Wish Foundation. How someone does became a wish-grantor?
When you want to exist in that sweet spot where reality tips over into fantasy and you can help facilitate a child’s dearest wish coming true.
You are a voice over actress also. What films have you worked on?
Fairy Fever for Margarita Mermaid.
What instruments do you used to write your music?
Music tumbles in through my dreams. When I wake up I record voice memo’s and tinker around on the piano till I’ve captured it.
If someone was listening to you for the first time, what 3 videos or songs would you tell them to look/listen to and why?
I’d tell them to hang tight for the next project because the future is where we are going … and it’s more exciting than where we’ve been!
Who is your favorite female singer and why?
My nana who sang me lullaby’s when i was a child.
What was your first concert and your last concert? Either yours or someone else?
No Doubt was my first. My most recent was a few nights ago … a friends show at Rockwood.
How do you see your music in the next five years?
Mysterious. Elusive. Cinematic.
It’s gonna slip out into the world riding on its own merit and won’t be attached to my name.
Any guilty pleasures your fans would be surprise you listen to?
Yes … but I must keep those guilty pleasures a secret for another day!! 🙂

Lots of travel!! The monarch butterfly migration in Mexico … sipping pink champagne in Paris while watching the Eiffel tower churn electric with my best friends for New Year’s!
