Today, Georgia announces her return with her incredible new album Euphoric; co-produced by Rostam (Haim, Carly Rae Jepsen, Clairo), it marks the first time that Georgia has worked with another producer on her own material. The result is her dynamite third studio LP, featuring ten songs that vibrate with energy and is set for release on July 28 via Domino

What is your upbringing?

Im from london, born and bread…never left…im part of the pavements haha. I was born in the 90s , my dad was at the centre of the UK rave / dance music scene in a band called Leftfield. So i was surrounded by music and loud bass. I was exposed to live music from an early age and my love for music grew and grew to the point when i sat mum and dad down and said “i want to be a musician” the rest is history they say.

How did you discover music?

lots of ways, in my early teens the internet came so i guess i would use google to search artists and information about music etc. i shopped a lot in record shops, there was this counter culture where you could ask the shop workers what are you listening to at the moment etc. My mum played a lot of music at home, and therefore i would listen and become curious. Oh and also Top of the Pops was still a thing when i grew up, so i would watch that religiously.

Describe your music.

i dont think i can easily. I think its quite a diverse sound really, alternative pop. But im really inclusive with musical sounds and textures from all over the world, on the new record we Cambodian drums mixed with 909s with an almost taylor swift vocal melody haha. I just love music, iv always wanted my sound to sound like nothing else, something new and exciting !

What was your first performance like?

gosh, i think it was probably when i was in secondary school, so i was 12 or 13. I remember it was for a school concert in a park and in front of pupils, parents and general public. It was an Alicia Keys cover, and i remember triggering a drum machine and then playing piano and singing. I remember feeling very scared before but once done the most elated feeling ever. I think i knew then to be honest.

What was the title of your first original song? Did you record it?

it was called Holiday, i wrote it on a guitar i got for christmas when i was 10 maybe even earlier….haha. I did not record it, but i can still remember the melody in the chorus ! I think its on a family video tape somewhere, thats never going to surface haha !

How was it to write for Shania Twain’s ‘Queen of Me’ album?

it was a dream come true. Iv been a fan of Shania since i can remember so to sit there and write a song with her was surreal and incredible. Shes a total inspiration, i was so impressed with her studio work ethic, she was first in and last out. Amazing ! The way we wrote song was so cool and intimate. Me, mark and her, it felt very natural and we were all very excited when we finished, the song felt exciting and she was very happy with the whole experience so felt like job done.

Tell me about your new album “Euphoric”?

ok. Erm. Its a bit of a departure musically from my last record. But its still danceable and totally optimistic about the future. I want people to listen and feel inspired about the world and all it has to offer. I know humanity faces difficult times but i hope this does not control people’s narratives. Theres so much beauty and wonderment out there, i guess social media makes everything seem so small and insular. Id like to think this album does not follow any trend and stands in a league of its own. Im not dictated by tik tok trends or the “cool” sound. I like music that sounds like nothing else.

Why is it a techonicolor album?

i think all the sounds and textures which Rostam and I very intentionally mixed in the production of the songs evoke all sorts of colours to me. It sparks the imagination ! We wanted people to listen and get lost in the production a bit like Ray of Light by Madonna or Daft Punk Discovery.

Telll me about the single “It’s Euphoric”?

well it was the first song Rostam and I wrote on our FIRST meeting in the studio which was crazy. So it holds a very special place in my heart, cause without this song i would not have had this whole life changing experience. Its really a simple little song, with a simple repetitive bass-line, shimmery keys parts and a hooky vocal melody. But the ending gives you this satisfying ravey ending. I love this song. I love playing it live too.

How was it working with Co-producer Rostam?

It was a dream come true. He is truly amazing in every way. He was such an inspiration during the making of the record, his involvement is really integral and still is. Im in awe of his musical ability, his kindness and openness. He created such a calming environment in the studio that i was able to open up and really be vulnerable at times which i think had a great impact on the songwriting and lyrics.

Out of the 10 songs which is your favorite?

So What.
