Comedian, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, is a Tucson favorite as seen by his sold out show at Casino del Sol’s AVA Amphitheatre. Fluffy is a name he adopted that pokes fun at his weight. “I’m Not Big. . I’m Fluffy.” As he said in a past interview, “It beats the hell out of fat.”
He mentioned early in the show that he managed loose 70 pounds during his time during the covid break from touring. People in the front of the audience were wondering, “How big were you?” ‘Dinosaur size’ was his response. “There’s no secret to it. They closed all the restaurants and I can’t cook.” Iglesias tested positive for Covid during this time.
Iglesias has been performing live shows for 25 years. The first time Iglesias did a show outside of his home town of L.A.was in Tucson. Bugsy’s was the establishment on the corner of Oracle and Roger and it is no longer open.
This weekend, he announced, “This show is going to be longer because it’s my birthday.” He referenced many local things during the set. His observations included the heat, “I looked at my phone earlier. It was sweating. When I got out of my car, I thought I was having a stroke.” Also he noticed drive thru liquor stores, “I’ve never seen that before. That’s scary and cool at the same time.“ All things a Tucsonan takes for granted.
Early in the show, Iglesias saw that there was a sign language interpreter. He had a great time trying to sign and interpret the interpreter. Just don’t ask him to sign for the word “burrito.” A burrito will never taste the same.
Iglesias’ show is relatively clean—without extreme profanity. One would consider it PG-13. Even so, you find yourself laughing out loud with ‘Fluffy” and it’s all in good fun. This is the reason all his Tucson shows sell out.
