On December 14th, I pulled up to the Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigan, to get my credentials. It was freezing cold, and you couldn’t feel any part of your body. Usually, I can go right up to the front of the box office, but this time, I had to stand in line and wait. Once I got my credentials, I stepped inside, finally enjoying the heat. The concert preparations were in full swing, with people helping each other with their hair, making sure they looked right. As I moved inside to where the concert was, I caught a contact high from the cloud of smoke—it was lit even before the concert started.

Arkeisha Knight, known as Kash Doll, was born on March 14th, 1992, in Detroit, Michigan. Raised by a single mother, she took an interest in rap at an early age, testing her writing and freestyling skills. Arkeisha attended Henry Ford College for a year, studying Business Management, and once made $26,000 rapping at a club in one night. Detroit breeds resilience, and while we might not know her entire story, she made it to the top.

Fast forward to 2024 at the Masonic Temple on December 14th. I found my seat as the DJ already had the crowd hyped up, dancing and twerking to every hit hip-hop song from old school to new school. People were standing on chairs, twerking on each other. When Kash Doll was announced, the lights went out, and a spotlight centered on the stage. You could see a pink set greenroom, with a big mirror on the left side, a bed in the middle, and a chaise chair on the right.

Kash Doll started with a powerful opening, proving she could hang with the best of them—she’s the Barbie Queen of Hip Hop. And that was just the beginning. She delivered an incredible performance of real hip hop, and even iced out her best friend for her birthday—true ride-or-die friendship. It was refreshing to hear real hip hop. Kash Doll, I bow down to you, Barbie Queen. Keep giving us real music. THE LAST DOLL TOUR gets 10 stars.
