Earl Klugh, the master of acoustic jazz guitar, one of the few on that instrument, in jazz played an hour and half set of all his major hits and then some .With a superb band, consisting of Tom Braxton, saxophones and flute, David Lee, Keyboards, Al Turner, electric bass, and Ron Otis, drums, each player was given ample time on each tune for solos, as Earl, soared above the tight band, brilliantly soaring like a bird in flight! With all original material , he glided through an array of tempos on, “Brazilian Stomp”(samba),”Heartstring”(ballad)”Midnight in San Juan”(my favorite), smooth jazz,”Livin Inside Your Love”(pop/soul)”Wishful Thinking”(country/gospel)”Vonetta”(fast samba)and others.

His superb, soulful, band accompanied him, with tight arrangements and harmonies. Surprisingly, Earl did not utter a single word to the audience, but preferred to let his music do the talking .Instead, his keyboardist, David Lee, was the MC who gave all the history of the band; he’s been with him 24 years!

It was hard to believe that Earl, who looked and bit thin and frail, not like his past huskier self, is still going strong after 41 years of playing. He has not lost a bit of energy or expression! Great show! him, with tight arrangements and harmonies.
