The Detroit Institute of Arts held the showing of, Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes.

Don Was, the President of Blue Note gave the opening introduction.
If you’re a jazz lover this is a must-see. If you’re not a jazz lover this still is a must-see. The documentary is superbly crafted from beginning to end.
The director Sophie Huber did a remarkable job of weaving interviews, videos and photographs together to tell an incredible story of Alfred Lion and Frances Wolfe two childhood friends that fled Nazi Germany came to New York City and started Blue Note Records.

Neither one was musically inclined, but they knew what they loved, music.
Alfred loved jazz and Frances was a professional photographer.

He was gifted with a great eye; the documentary is worth seeing just for the historic photographs he took.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 11. I might be a little bias, but I love jazz and music history. Every music aficionado needs to see this.
