You are a guitarist and a songwriter. Tell me about your upbringing?
I always loved music and had a big imagination growing up. Still do, lol. I have always played an instrument growing up. I played the Recorder, Violin, Bass, Viola, now guitar and some bass!
I didn’t start writing until I picked up a guitar.
How did you discover music?
My older sister played a HUGE part in my listening to all types of music and my parents. My parents played old school music such as, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, Isley Brothers, Michael Jackson, Earth Wind and Fire around the home. My older sister got me into Rock and Metal. She loved No Doubt, Garbage, Deftones, Incubus and then it got to Killswitch Engage, Pantera, Slayer, Lita Ford, Ozzy, Zakk Wylde etc.
How did you start to write music?
Once I learned chords, I just went with it and followed my heart. I didn’t know much music theory at the time, I went with my heart.
How did you get your name ICE?
It’s short-term for my name Issielle.
How did you get your first guitar, and do you still have it?
My very first guitar was from my dad, a Yamaha acoustic. I still have it in my room!
You talked about the top 5 guitars you wish you had. Have you had the chance to play any of these guitars?
Honestly, NO. I will eventually lol.
How many guitars do you have?
10 guitars, 1 bass.
What was your first performance like?
Recorder wise, I think middle school, lol. Guitar wise at an open mic at some cafe.
What makes a good songwriter?
A songwriter should “feel” and have “heart” when creating.
What was the title of your first original song? Did you record it?
“The beginning”. I didn’t professionally record it. I was young.
How was NAMM this year?
NAMM was beautiful as always. Met wonderful people!
If you could jam with anyone who would that be?
Lita Ford, TCOLORICE09oni Iommi, Zakk Wylde , Earth Wind and Fire, John Mayer, Ronnie Isley, Steve Vai, Jake E Lee, to name a few (trust me, there’s a lot more).
One of the greatest underrated female guitarists Sister Rosetta Tharpe. How would you get her name out more so more people could know more about her?
TALK about her more, cover her songs, and visibly show representation of her by posting her on social media more and wearing merch of her.
What is your favorite track on the album?
I got to be honest, I am extremely proud of “Solitary”. ALL of the tracks are beautiful to me. It was my heart; I spoke of Snow Leopards. I love Snow Leopards deeply.
How do you stay healthy while touring?
I don’t tour yet but I have been working out lately and seen results. Cook your meals, not too much carbs, less sugar in your coffee or go black. Don’t kill yourself when staying healthy, slowly remove the unnecessary things your body doesn’t need.
What are you feeling about streaming music?
Personally, it’s a double-edged sword. You can show your work to everyone instantly but things have become saturated. Everyone’s releasing music so fast we can’t keep up! So, I view it as a good and not so good thing.
Digital vs. vinyl?
BOTH. But having a physical copy has meaning and could be passed down!
What song from the past is in your mind right now? Moreover, what is the meaning that song means to you?
Yes, a couple songs are on my mind right now “Yearning for your love” The Gap Band. “I’ll always come back to you” Isley Brothers, “In the mood” The whispers. The songs exuded passion. They brought in the atmosphere of LOVE. The instrumentation, how slow the vocals were when extending the words, the detailing made you want to dance and love your significant other. It makes me happy and it shows the power of making people feel a certain way for that moment.
What have you been doing with your self-quarantine?
I released “SOLITARY” so I am NOW taking a step back and learning how to. I am not too good with stopping but now I know it’s necessary. Been inspired by old school music, other instruments, nature as always.
Have you discovered or rediscovered any new hobbies?
I have gotten back to things that I left along the way; instruments I want to get into. It’s on my mind and it will eventually manifest with it in my hands.
Many artists are doing nightly concerts over either YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. In October that is going to change at least on Facebook. Facebook is cracking down on live streamed shows that include recorded music with new terms of service, preventing artists from using the platform for “commercial or non-personal” purposes, unless they have obtained the relevant licenses.
The updated music guidelines state that users “may not use videos on our products [which include Instagram] to create a music listening experience […] This will includes [Facebook] Live,” and stipulates that such content should be posted for the enjoyment of friends and family only.
How do you think this will change the landscape of Facebook?
Facebook will eventually be obsolete. As we speak new apps will be developed. So, I think it will be in Facebook’s loss and decline. People are going to leave for another platform.
What about Holographic concerts in our living room?
I am open to the idea but NOTHING beats an in-person experience. NOTHING.
If you can’t do music what would you like to be doing?
Likely be a songwriter, photographer or fashion designer.
Anything you would like to say in closing.
Thank you for the support! Nothing but love and abundance!
