The Eagles with JD & The Straight Shot
United Center , Chicago, IL, USA, March 14th, 2018
Review by Anita Maree Brodersen
With winter nearing the end in Chicago and springtime on the horizon, one can be sure that peaks of tulips will start to emerge from the ground and the return of the American robin and other birds will migrate back to start nesting and singing their melodies from the trees. But before all of that, Chicago fans were greeted by The Eagles – a band that has sold over 150 million records and have been inducted into the Rock-n-Roll hall of fame. They are the fifth-highest-selling musical act and the highest-selling American band in U.S. history.
With the death of The Eagles vocalist/guitarist Glenn Frey two years ago, the band is on tour with his son Deacon
and country singer/songwriter Vince Gill. Both are a super fit and ease in nicely with the flow of the band. Also, on tour is Don Henley’s son Will on guitar – which was a surprise since there was no formal press release on this addition. Don proudly introduced him half-way during the show.
The Eagles opened with the acoustic “Seven Bridges Road” which showcased their five-part harmonies. Deacon then performed on lead vocals “Take it Easy” and the night took off into full flight. Hit after hit was performed including “One of These Nights”, “Take It to the Limit” and Tequila Sunrise with Vince Gill on lead vocals, “Witchy Woman” performed by Don Henley on drums, and “In the City” with Joe Walsh pumping things up. Before the start of the song “I Can’t Tell You Why” vocalist/guitarist Timothy B. Schmit who sat on a stool all night performing told the nearly sold out arena of a minor accident in a hotel shower the night before and that he almost didn’t’ make it to the show.
The Eagles gave their fans two hours plus of nearly 30 songs from their enormous collection of rock hits. They have embarked on the first wing of their extended tour this year so make sure you fly along with them as they will keep you soaring!
The opening band – JD & The Straight Shot was a perfect fit to get the crowd in a groove. They are on the road
supporting their new album “Good Luck and Good Night” which is getting rave reviews. Vocalist Jim Dolan, guitarist Marc Copely, bassist Byron House, fiddler Erin Slaver, drummer/percussionist Shawn Pelton and guitarist Carolyn Dawn Johnson performed in their own unique style of country blues with rock roots. The band performed many new songs off their new album including “Shambala”, “Run to for Me”, “Moonlight” and “Redemption Train”. Check out an exclusive interview with this band by Unrated Magazine!
