The dynamic duo of rock legends Cherie Currie and Brie Daring met in 2017 and with their explosive musical talent, they decided to record an album this year called Motivator that includes three original songs and powerful cover tracks. Taking a few steps back now, in the late 60’s and early 70’s Brie was the drummer of Fanny, one of the first all-female rock bands and in the mid-’70s Cherie was the lead singer of the teenage all-female rock group The Runaways. It took over 40 years for the two singers to meet since they left their bands back in the ‘70s and thank goodness their paths finally crossed! Unrated Magazine had an exclusive interview with the singers about ‘Motivator’ a few months back and they were thrilled to get on the road to tour across the US promoting their new album. Their band members include Nick Maybury-guitarist, Dave Schulz-keyboard, Phil Leavitt-drums, and Michael Devin –bass.
When the band took the stage they opened with The Runaways “American Nights” and got the crowd singing along followed by “Gimme Shelter”, a classic Rolling Stones cover. The band performed other cover songs like “The Motivator”, “Do It Again”, “Higher Ground”, “Get Together”, and “Gimme Some Truth”. The cover songs were performed passionately and right on the mark and their original songs were outstanding including “This Is Our Time” and “I’m Too Good, That’s Just Too Bad”. It was great to see Brie behind the drums as she performed two Fanny songs “Lured Away” and “When We Need Her”. Cherie did a stunning job performing “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” and the show closed with the rocking “Cherry Bomb” and it seemed like the entire audience was on their feet, pumping fist up singing – Ch-Ch Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch – Cherry Bomb – the timeless classic hit from The Runaways.
As the year comes to a close the excitement builds on what is in store of this dynamic duo. Brie told Unrated Magazine that another album is in the works with Blue Elan Records for release next year plus they are lining up more dates for a 2020 tour.
