Interview conducted on March 28, 2023

By Dan Locke

Clyde’s malleable singing voice and contemplative, poetic lyricism espouse an essential connection between our spiritual center and the natural world that surrounds us. The new album was recorded in six days flat with producer Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney) in Los Angeles’ famed Sound City studios, striking listeners with an intimate, livewire electricity and capturing the captivating live performance that Clyde has become revered for. Stay tuned for US shows and festival appearances coming soon!

How did you get your first guitar?

I got my first guitar when I was about 13.  It was a bright orange Ibanez with a silver flame pickguard.

What is the make, model and year of your favorite guitar and do you have a name for it?

My favourite guitar is my tenor guitar.  It’s a 1950’s Harmony.

Tell me about your newest single “Papa Took My Totems”?

It’s a song about the destruction and disrespect of the natural world and all things sacred.

How was it to work with Laura-Lynn Patrick as a director?

It was lovely to work with Laura-Lynn.  She had a very relaxed and curious energy which allowed a lot of collaboration and dreaming up of ideas.  I had a great time working with her, and would love to again in the future.

Vinyl or digital?

I think both have their place.  I love vinyl for the quality of sound, and the experience of the needle coming down to open you into the world of song as well as flipping the sides.  It’s great for dancing and creating an experience in a room or in a home.  I love digital for its portability.  I can walk with headphones on and listen to my favourite songs wherever I am in the world.  That’s pretty incredible.

How did you feel once you learned that “Been Worrying” had hit 2 million streams on Spotify?

It feels good.  It feels good to create music that resonates and moves people.  I feel a lot of gratitude to be doing what I do
