Meet 19-year-old alternative pop / rock singer songwriter from New York, Cait Devin. With guitar being a key part of Cait’s artistry, she is one to dabble in many styles, reaching a diverse range of audiences. Key influences include Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Paramore, Chase Atlantic, Avril Lavigne, Grimes, Incubus, and the Weeknd. With a hint of 90’s charm, modern contemporary sounds, and powerful, soulful vocals with guitar riffs to match, Cait is ready to take on the music industry with a determined to succeed and positive mindset.

What is your upbringing?

I’m an only child, been living in a colonial house next to a farm all my life lol! Nice and peaceful with a forest to explore growing up, gave me lots of freedom and artistic inspiration right from home.

How did you discover music?

I was never really impressive at anything else

How did you start to write music?

I started writing lyrics ever since I was super young, 8 or 9 maybe. I picked up a guitar much later in my mid-teens.

Describe your music

Alternative pop / rock with some contemporary elements here and there, for the most part. I like to dabble with a lot of different sounds, but someone once told me my sound is like Taylor Swift with an electric guitar! I’m flattered because I love her!!

How did you get your first guitar, and do you still have it?

. I got a small beginner’s guitar at my local guitar shop, and I still have it! 🙂

What is your guitar of choice now?   Year, make and model?

. Any SG I’d likely vibe with (but I love the Epiphones especially) Any Ibanez is sick too

What was your first performance at like?

I was 10 years old and it was at a school talent show! I sang a Selena Gomez song

What makes a good songwriter?

authenticity

Do you belong to any to songwriters’ organizations like the International singer-songwriter association?

Cait Devin

Right now, I do not, but it’s on my list!

What was the title of your first original song? Did you record it?

My first EP was Gemini Rising when I was 16.

How often do you play jazz?

Honestly, I’m not much of a jazz player lol. Still much to learn

Any words about Eddie Van Halen?

A legend and one of the biggest if not the biggest influence in the guitar world

Tell me about your new music?

It’s…different. From what I usually do. Kinda? idk, you’ll hafta hear it

What is your favorite track on the upcoming album?

Its only one single and it’s called the Bright Side (available to pre save now)!!

How do you stay healthy while touring?

Cait Devin
Cait Devin

What are you’re feeling about streaming music?

Cait Devin
Cait Devin

The music industry has been taken over by the streaming world, it’s just the new way.

How can people forget about the origin hashtag # Sharp in a musical score?

who knows man?

Digital vs. vinyl?

Hmmmm both

What are your feelings about the social uprising going on in the United States? What is the mental health situation of the United State?  How can the public help the doctors and nurses on the front line?

Be kind and respectful to everyone at all times. Wear a mask. Social distance. Doing simple things like this day to day really do make a positive impact and helps out those working to keep society going and everyone safe (doctors, essential workers, etc.)

What song from the past is in your mind right now? Moreover, what is the meaning that song means to you?

1000 Nights by Frenship.

How do you feel the Covid-19 virus going to affect the music business in the future?

Everything’s going to be more digital, that’s for sure. I’m not sure what to expect.

Why haven’t you played your Gibson SG in months?

She’s an Epiphone! and I got the new Ibanez so she stole my attention for a few months.

How was it to be part of the MEGA Shred Callob Will Fix Your 2020?

I organized the collab- it was a lot of fun to put together! Great players.

Many artists are doing nightly concerts over either YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.  In October that is going to change at least on Facebook.  Facebook is cracking down on livestreamed shows that include recorded music with new terms of service, preventing artists from using the platform for “commercial or non-personal” purposes, unless they have obtained the relevant licenses.

The updated music guidelines state that users “may not use videos on our products [which include Instagram] to create a music listening experience […] This will include [Facebook] Live,” and stipulates that such content should be posted for the enjoyment of friends and family only.

How do you think this will change the landscape of Facebook?

Hmmmm not sure! Guess I will wait it out. I think they might be coming up with something for artists on Facebook as far as streaming goes.

How can bands keep their fans if they cannot play live in front of the fans and sell merch to them at the show?

Stay consistent on social media and constantly network and make pals!

Is pay to play still a thing?

Yes, but I don’t do it.

What about Holographic concerts in our living room?

Cait Devin

yesses

If you can’t do music what would you like to be doing?

Eating a snicker crying

Anything you would like to say in closing.

Have a snazzy day!
