How did you discover music?

Cadaveria: My family has a rock and classical music culture, so music has always been part of my life since when I was a little girl.

How did you start to write music?

Writing has always been a requirement for me. I started making music for fun and writing lyrics to communicate my thoughts.

You are a female fronted black, metal/Dark Metal/Gothic Metal band based in Italy. How did you get the band together?

CADAVERIA band was formed in 2001 by Marcelo Santos (drums) and me, with the intent to create a virtual space where to freely express ourselves as extreme artists.

How did you get your bands name?

Cadaveria name is inspired to Morticia from the Addams Family, which I was a fan of.

Describe your music.

CADAVERIA music is hard to describe since it is very personal and we don’t follow any trend. It’s a strange mix of Black/Dark and Gothic Metal, but the best way to understand what I’m talking about is to go and stream it on Spotify or Youtube!

What is the process of writing your music?

I write often, at least two or three times a week. thoughts, reflections, things that interest me. If a melody comes to mind, I record it on my cell phone. These are the embryos of the songs that I then work with Marcelo, also combining the riffs that come from the guitarists.

Tell me about the making of your release “The Shadows Madame”?

We started recording it in September 2001, during the twin towers attack. Our debut album was released in March 2002 and got great consent worldwide, becoming soon a cult album.

In 2022 we will celebrate its 20th anniversary, so expect some surprises!

You haven’t song with the band since December 28, 2017. At which time you took a break, then your cancer happens.

But now the band has come back strong. What were you thinking the first time you heard about you had cancer?

I felt like I was living in a movie, you always think that certain things happen to others and not to you. It was a nightmare come true and I had to face it with all the strength I am capable of.

Your single “The Woman When Fell to Earth” came out June 1st. Tell me about it.

The Woman When Fell to Earth is dedicated to all the women on earth, as it embraces the concept of the sacred feminine, exalting the woman as a symbol of life, energy, abundance, strength, and elegance.

This is a take from David Bowie “The Man Who Fell to Earth”?

Yes, the title was inspired by The Man Who Fell to Earth movie.

What are you’re feeling about streaming music?

It’s the present and I live in the here and now. So, stream Cadaveria!

What does 2021 mean to you since you are celebrating your 20 years of activity?

To celebrate we gave our fans the entire discography as a viewer on our Youtube channel. The release of the new digital singles is also a way to celebrate our return to music and these 20 intense years of records, concerts, emotions and hard work.

It is a point of arrival and also of a new departure.

What have you been doing with your self-quarantine?

I meditated and cultivated my relationship with nature with long walks in the woods. I created music and handmade t-shirts for our fans.

Tell me about the creation of your customized tank tops.

I made tank tops printed with the CADAVERIA logo at the bottom and at the top I embroidered messages related to health and self-love. I involved my 85-year-old mom in the project and she embroiders very well so she spent the time during the lock down. I donated the proceeds of the sale to the cancer center where I was treated.

How can bands keep their fans if they cannot play live in front of the fans and sell merchandise to them at the show?

Certainly, the absence of concerts makes it impossible to sell merchandise directly to their fans.

We have an online store on the cadaveria.com site, so we invite those who want to support us to buy directly from there or from our BandCamp. Streaming on Spotify can also help a band survive in such difficult times.

Anything you would like to say in closing.
