Brazil is a well-known home to a deep, extremely diversified pool of musical talent that has produced a dizzying array of stars in multiple genres, ranging from pop (Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso) to samba (Jorge Ben Jor, Joao Gilberto) to Soul (Tim Maia, Sandra de Sá).
In fact, Maia and De Sá sparked a soul/funk musical movement in Brazil in the 1970s and 1980s whose inspiration can be heard on Baby I Love You, the debut.
Super Pop single by the supremely emotive, singer/songwriter, Cammie. Baby I Love Youis set for release on March 10.
You started at the age of nine during voice overs on things like Toystory. Then you went to working on jingles for Leader. Tell me about your first time you did a jingle?
The first time was fun and also funny. Since I was young and shy they had to turn off the lights of the studio just so I could sing comfortably. But at the same time, I felt that was my place, and after that I did more jingles for that store (with the lights on)!
How was it to be on the Voice Brazil?
It was an amazing experience to get more intimate with cameras and the industry and also making all the friend and fans that are still with me.
What was the title of your first original song? Did you record it?
My first official original song I wrote it when I was 13 years old, called “Never Loved You”. And it is available on youtube to be honest, hahaha.
What language do you write your music in?
I mostly write in english, but release more music in Portuguese. Now I’m looking forward to making a fusion of them so everyone enjoys it.
Tell me about the making of the video 7 Years?
It was a nostalgic moment, putting those pictures on the wall, having memories through the whole song was an experience. A beautiful and great experience.
Tell me about your latest recording “Baby I Love”? How was it working with Guilherme France on the recording?
“Baby I Love You” it’s just a warm hug from friends who get you. Everyone can see themselves on the song. It was fun and interesting working with Guilherme França because we get along really well with music and our vibes just mixes together.
I see your sister Laura O’Donnell was a productor and editor on the record. What other projects has seen worked on?
My sister is my queen, it is just so amazing to have someone you love by your side supporting you the best they can. She’s an amazing editor and filmmaker, done almost every single one of my music videos, always me and her.
What are you feeling about streaming music?
I love the experience to show the world my story, so releases for me and streams just means that everyone’s together. We all think we’re alone, but having the ability to show that we actually have a lot in common so it’s just amazing.
This month, you saw your name in Billboard Latin as a Emerging Artist to discover. How did you feel knowing that billboard had discovered you?
I cried for long hours, happy tears though. I couldn’t even believe cause I visualized and manifested this since o was a little kid, so it’s just so gratifying and joyful to have this to mark my Wishlist.
This year (2022) vinyl is outselling digital media. Metallica is selling so much vinyl that they bought their own pressing plant- They pressed 900,000 plus pieces of vinyl I 2022 alone. The plant they purchase is the Furnace Record Pressing in Alexandria, VA. So is it Digital vs. vinyl?
I’m a fan of both, so I can’t decide. Whatever you like, but I’m always sure to think about making vinyls.
What is your happy place?
My happy place isn’t a place, they are people. My happy place is where the ones I love are.
Anything you would like to say in closing.
Thank you so much for having me and be sure to see more of Cammie if you’re relatable to any song. Sending a lot of love, always remind yourself to be who you needed when you were younger. ❤️
