BONES UK
VIC THEATRE CHICAGO IL, USA, OCTOBER 22 2019
Opening for Tom Morello in Chicago is BONES UK featuring lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Rosie Bones, lead guitarist Carmen Vandenberg, and drummer Heavy. The British group from Camden Town, who now is residing in Los Angeles California has been busy since 2014 when they first formed the band. BONES UK recently spent some time on the road opening for The Struts, but most notable is back in 2014 when Jeff Beck was intrigued by the band and asked the band to cowrite his 2016 album Loud Hailer. The buzz around Jeff Beck interested in this band sparked their career fore-sure.
The crowd here in Chicago seems excited to here BONES UK as most people I spoke with haven’t heard of them but there were a few that were there for Bones UK. The first time I heard of them was on Howard Stern as Howard Stern ask the band to cover “I’m Afraid of Americans” a song by David Bowie and would be on the David Bowie tribute album.
Bones and Vandenberg delve into the stereotype of masculinity and sexism of most in the music industry. “Girls Can’t Play Guitar” that’s where Vandenberg absolutely shined. The crowd enjoyed Bones UK’s strong performance and gave them a warm and wonderful welcome from beginning to the end of their Rock n Roll / Blues set.
Guitarist Carmen Vandenberg I enjoyed watching and listening to as she can play the blues all her licks and solos were blues to the core, she impressed me. Heavy on drums was tight. Heavy just killed on drums, a very solid timekeeper. A little advice Rosie Bones stop dropping your guitar on purpose as its not so good for your guitar neck and maybe that’s why your guitar is never in tune and can’t stay tuned and you are always trying to tune after every song. Get a guitar tech.
