The outdoor music venue, Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, IL was in for a treat with two legendary bands. Hitting the stage first was The Righteous Brothers.

Back in 1962, the musical duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield formed and they had a series of hit songs. Hatfield passed in 2003 but Medley has continued to perform and on stage with him now is the talented Bucky Heard. The two of them were like the dynamic duo. Bucky gave the audience chills when he performed the Roy Orbison hit ‘Cryin’. Bill performed ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as they showed video photos of his late singing partner Bobby. Bill also performed “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from the movie “Dirty Dancing”the singing duet with his daughter. Other songs performed were hits like ‘Unchained Melody’ and ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling’.

Hat’s off to the performance of Bill’s booming baritone vocals and Bucky’s incredible vocal range. It was an hour of hearing some classic songs by two entertaining vocalists. I might mention Bill was a great storyteller on stage as he shared memories of his career and his band was the opening act for The Beatles.

Right before The Beach Boys took the stage, videos and photos of the original line-up from 1961 were showcased for the huge crowd at Ravinia. Those sitting in

the pavilion and those sitting in the lawn were reminded that they are still one of the most successful bands ever in rock-n-roll history. When original member Mike Love took the stage along with the other band members they opened with ‘Do It Again’ and the night soared with the huge crowd hearing hit after hit. Playing guitar, drums, and more, actor/musician John Stamos was also on stage and performed the song ‘Forever’. Longtime member Brian Johnston and Mike Love’s son Christian also performed. Other hit songs performed included, ‘Surfer Girl’, ‘Surfin U.S.A’, ‘When I Grow Up (to Be a Man)’, ‘California Girls’, and ‘Kokomo’. The band performed well over thirty plus songs.

While the band has changed lineups over the years, the current musicians really took the songs to another level and the audience walked away having a ‘Fun, Fun, Fun’ night!
