From Ozzy to Zakk
The Forge, Joliet, IL, USA , July 17, 2018
by Jake Warkel
Black Label Society has been around for 20 years now, during which they have released 10 albums. This is Zakk’s baby and definitely is something that is unlike playing for Ozzy. Being in control of your own band is stressful but when you call the shots it has to be a wonderful feeling. BLS definitely as earned their own place in Rock’n’Roll history.
Tonight the BLACK LABEL SOCIETY ILLINOIS CHAPTER sold-out “The Forge” Joliet, IL and the fans are ready to explodein excitement. The curtain drops as they start the night off with ’Genocide Junkies’ from the 2002 album ‘1919 Eternal’, Black Label Society immediately had the crowd. Zakk’s typical playing style with his hair flailing from side to side as he is shredding away on his guitar.
”Dario Lorina has become a great addition to BLS, teamed up 4 years ago with Zakk Wylde playing forceful rhythms, strong melodies and is a very talented guitar player. Dario Lorina switched from guitar to playing the piano during the song ‘Bridge to cross’ which was awesome. Zakk then took over on the piano and sat down to perform ‘Spoke in the wheel’ and ‘In this River’, a ballad dedicated to late PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell and also recently passing this past month drummer brother Vinny Paul. The brothers were very dear to Zakk Wylde and will be sorely missed by everyone.
During “Fire It Up”, he melted the faces of the crowd with an extended guitar solo, which included him walking through the crowd while he was playing and giving his fans a time to remember. Zakk is definitely a showman and would probably play a whole set in the crowd if he could.
BLS fan-favorite “Stillborn’, was the last song on the night and a bunch of big black beach balls sporting the Black Label Society logo made their way into the crowd to be volleyed around,
John “JD” DeServio, current bass player of Black Label Society was also the original member of Pride and Glory back in 1994, and is currently laying down some killer bass lines and keeping a solid groove going keeping everything tight.
Jeff Fabb is an amazing drummer playing his part being the perfect timekeeper throughout the set. All night the BLS sounded tight and on their game. If you ever have the chance get out to see Black Label Society do so you will not be disappointed.
