Art Alexakis: Sun Song Tour

Art Alexakis kicked off his solo tour in support of his debut solo album Sun Songs. Art is the lead singer-songwriter-founder of the band Everclear who tonight is playing solo with an acoustic guitar strapped to himself.
Art hits the stage and discusses right off the bat that the venue Space Evanston was not where he was planning on playing but is more than happy with the outcome. He praised the venue as his new favorite place in the Chicago area and said he will make sure he will make this venue Space Evanston his new place to come when he comes back to Chicago.
Art Alexakis brought up how he was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which I’m assuming he wanted to mention to get out of the way beforehand.
Art co-produced the album with his friend Stuart Schenk, who is a great producer and engineer. Art Alexakis wrote all of the songs, played all of the instruments, and sang all of the vocals. Art made it a point to let people know that he wanted to make this record because he wanted to do something fun, challenging, and something he has never done before.
A very quaint intimate place with probably the best way to see a solo show. Art performed acoustically almost flawless but the crowd/fans couldn’t give two shits if Art messed up. I myself thought it was a wonderful show too. I love when artists mess up or forget words, that’s a true raw performance. Art played many of his Everclear hits but left some out that fans tried to request. Art actually sang happy birthday to a lady during the Q&A segment of the show. When the young lady went up to the microphone to ask Art a question first thing she said it’s my birthday it’s the best birthday ever, then asked if he can play the Happy Birthday song. Art answered by just singing Happy Birthday to her, talk about making someone’s night.
Many fans had their moment to talk with Art during the Q&A segment along with after the show. Art decided he wanted to meet the fans sign cds take pictures with fans and just hang and enjoy the moment which he did.
