The Des Plaines, IL theatre was full of excitement with co-founder of the legendary band The Beach Boys, Al Jardine, taking stage with his family and friends for a night of iconic songs. His band includes son, Matt Jardine, along with sisters Carnie and Wendy Wilson, Rob Bonfiglio, Ed Carter, Bobby Figueroa, and Debbie Shair.
It was a night of hearing The Beach Boys classic hits. The band opened with “Do It Again”, followed by “Catch a Wave”, “Hawaii”, “California Girls”, “Darlin”, “Surfer Girl”, and “Don’t Worry Baby”. Before most of the songs Al gave some background notes and memories on the writing of the songs and told some stories about Brian Wilson, co-founder of The Beach Boys.
It was great to see and hear Carnie and Wendy Wilson, daughters of Brian, on stage singing back-up vocals to all the songs. They performed two songs from their band Wilson Phillips, “Impulsive” and “Hold On”. They did a tremendous job and the crowd sang along to hear these hits. Their 1990 debut album sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
The incredible voice of Matt Jardine was the real anchor of the show, and the band also performed many other songs including, “Help Me, Rhonda”, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”, “Good Vibration”, and “Surfin’ U.S.A.” The Beach Boy songs are so good that they have held up over some 50 plus years. One of the most successful bands ever, The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records worldwide and are well known for their distinguished vocal harmonies.
Al Jardine’s band accomplished a fun night of hearing these timeless songs with his family and friends. It is true to say the audience had fun, fun, fun listening and singing along on all of these classic hits.
