On July 24th, the band 3Teeth put on one H3LL of a show for a packed Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago. It was obvious that their fans had been anticipating their appearance in the Windy City because the room was completely electric just prior to them taking the stage. Dressed in all black and their senses at an all-time high, I almost felt as though I was one of them as I meandered throughout the crowd….wearing navy blue cargo shorts and a White Sox jersey. 😉
First and foremost, I must mention that during my research of the band, I learned that the band’s name “3Teeth” derives from the ‘divine weapon of god that causes destruction,’ the trident. And, after seeing them live, I could fully understand how the band’s founding members, Alexis Mincolla (vocals) and Xavier Swafford (keys & synth) made the decision to choose such an impressive title for their project.
3Teeth hails from Los Angeles, California and have only immersed themselves within the industrial rock/metal scene a little over five years ago, which is impressive on a couple of different levels. First, they have clearly mastered their craft with regard to their tight sound as a unit and, like I mentioned above, they are most definitely packing notable live music venues each time they tour.
They have released three albums, the latest being, “Metawar.” The album itself is a testament of all things dysfunctional, relating to politics, society, and life in general. The first two albums are also a great listen but, in my opinion, have provided the ultimate springboard for Metawar. It is simply pristine.
As far as touring goes, I have noticed that this band chooses to tour in quality…not quantity, which is likely their ultimate plan in order to feel the above-mentioned electric anticipation that is felt when they hit the stage. There is certainly no overkill and not one second of lull within their set. If you are a fan of fog, blinding strobe lights, that shoves a heavy industrial/goth-like sound through your ear-holes, this band is definitely for you.
